Dr. Michael Zigler has practiced in the field of veterinary ophthalmology for over 20 years. He provides consultation, diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of ocular disorders of companion animals, exotic and zoo animals and horses. In addition, he provides training in basic ocular examination techniques, diagnosis and treatment for senior veterinary students.

Dr. Zigler completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 at the University of Guelph. He went on to complete his DVM in 1979 at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.

From 1979 to 1982 he worked as an associate veterinarian in two different Alberta small-animal clinics. He then returned to Ontario in 1982 and worked at Kingsway Animal Hospital as an associate before opening Bronte Road Animal Hospital in 1984.

From 1990 to 1991 Dr. Zigler undertook a residency in Veterinary Ophthalmology. In 1993 he completed examinations and received the Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology (Cert.V.Ophthal.) from the Royal College of Veterinary Medicine in the United Kingdom (Britain).

Dr. Zigler's professional distinctions include serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College; consulting in ophthalmology for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), a network of specialists providing information and continuing education to general practitioners; being awarded Veterinarian of the Year in 1988 by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association; and Past President of both the American Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology and Canadian Association of Veterinary Ophthalmology where he is also an Honorary Life Member.

Dr. Zigler has also delivered numerous continuing education presentations and seminars on various ophthalmology-related subjects to organizations across North America.

He is married to Barbara Lupu, and they have a daughter Melissa. Family pets include Abigail, a Springer Spaniel; Sunny, a cockatiel and Molly, a budgie. Dr. Zigler's hobbies include playing tournament-level Scrabble, and collecting vintage Canadian banknotes.
