Dr. Wellington graduated with honors from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1984. Following graduation, Dr. Wellington was employed as an associate veterinarian in a mixed animal practice in southwestern Ontario for one year. She then relocated to London, Ontario where she worked as an associate in both a companion animal practice and an exclusive feline practice.

Dr. Wellington followed her interest in immunology and clinical veterinary medicine by pursuing a dermatology residency at Cornell University. She obtained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1997.

Dr. Wellington worked at the Mississauga Veterinary Referral Clinic for 9 years and later at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Referral Group. She joined the Mississauga-Oakville Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital in January 2011.

Dr. Wellington is a published author, is active in continuing education programs in Canada and internationally and has been a lead investigator for several pharmaceutical trials. She is Past President of the Canadian Academy of Veterinary Dermatology.
